The DR steering system is a mechanical system which is primarily used in heavy transport.
It is available with one or two axles steering system that can be fitted onto trailers with one to four axles.
The DR system ensures that the driver is able to maneuver his trailer more effectively, making it more efficient and suitable for the maneuverability required on urban roads and inner city deliveries.
The DR steering system would be most suited within the transport of construction materials and on tankers and tippers.
The main advantages are:
- Saving time
- Reducing fuel consumption
- Less tyre wear
- Less vehicle maintenance
- Less vehicle damage
How does it work
When taking turns, the articulation between the truck and the (semi) trailer are transferred by the fifth wheel using a steering wedge. From the coupling unit, two steering rods transfer this articulation directly to the rear axle mounting frame. If several axles are steered, the steering motion of the rear axle will be transferred to the other axle(s) with two steering rods.
